Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein said Friday he'll step down from his elected position June 1 to take a job as the CEO and president of the Minneapolis Downtown Council.
Stenglein was first elected to the board in 1996. His district includes St. Anthony, Northeast and North Minneapolis, Golden Valley, Medicine Lake, and portions of Crystal, New Hope, and Plymouth.
He'll replace longtime Downtown Council head Sam Grabarski, the Star Tribune said. Grabarski, who took the council job in 1996, is retiring.
An election will be scheduled to fill Stenglein's position, the paper said.
