Minneapolis officials say the Sabo pedestrian and bike bridge over Hiawatha Avenue reopens today, more than three months after it was shut down after two support cables broke loose.
Engineers determined that the bridge could be reopened with the adjustment of temporary supports and fine-tuning of the tension on the bridge’s cables.
A report on why the cables broke loose is still pending.
The 215-foot-long cable-stayed suspension bridge was built in 2007 as part of the Midtown Greenway to carry bikers and walkers over the busy Hiawatha.
