The ongoing lockouts of the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra haven't escaped national notice. In an appearance at the City Club of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra president Deborah Rutter was asked to comment on the situation in Minnesota. At her most diplomatic, Rutter ascribes the problems to a disconnect between management and musicians. But she also pointedly criticizes the idea that artistic decisions should be secondary to financial considerations. The video was posted by Fluence Media, which has done work representing the Minnesota Orchestra musicians.
