The first reports from three Minneapolis mayoral candidates — all of them City Council members — have been filed:
• Betsy Hodges, who did not actively raise money until after Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak’s Dec. 27 announcement that he would not run for a fourth term, has reported raising $11,492 in 2012. She listed 148 contributions, averaging $77.65.
• Don Samuels reports $469 cash on hand, the remains of a $500 contribution from his City Council campaign fund. Contributions from his campaign kickoff in late January will be included in the next finance report.
• Gary Schiff reports $27,107 cash on hand at the end of 2012, with loans to the campaign of $7,328 and unpaid bills of $9,300 for total debt of $16,628. The loan came from Schiff himself. The unpaid bills are from NGP VAN, a Washington, D.C., campaign service company focused on Democrats.
Finance reports from mayoral candidates Jackie Cherryhomes and Cam Winton have not yet been posted. Former Hennepin County Board Member Mark Andrew is also exploring the possibility of running.
Campaign finance reports were due to the Hennepin County Elections Office Jan. 31. Reports not yet posted may have been received but not yet processed. No fines are assessed until three days after the filing deadline, according to a spokesperson for the elections office staff.
Council races
The liveliest race at this point is in the 10th Ward, where four DFL candidates are challenging DFL incumbent DFLer Meg Tuthill. She reports $27,589 in her campaign account.
Ken Bradley, an energy and environmental organizer, is the Tuthill challenger with the most cash on hand: $11,320. Of that, $8,600 is listed as a loan from the candidate.
Kendal Killian, who works for the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees, is next with $10,755, including candidate loans totaling $272.
The other two candidates are Lisa Bender, who reports cash of $8,678 (including a $3,000 loan), and Nate Griggs, who has yet to form a finance committee.
Three incumbents have not yet filed year-end financial reports for 2012: Lisa Goodman (7th Ward), Elizabeth Glidden (8th Ward) and John Quincy (11th Ward).
