A new $78 million terminal will open at the Duluth International Airport on Jan. 14.

Last-minute tweaks are under way at the new terminal, which will replace the 1970s-era terminal now in use, says the Duluth News Tribune.

It will continue to be called Duluth International Airport terminal, because a deal for naming rights didn't work out.

The four-year construction project includes a new parking ramp. Federal grants and state bonding money paid most of the project's cost; a final $2 million is being sought from the Federal Aviation Administration.

A public preview of the new terminal is scheduled for Jan. 12, from noon to 4 p.m., with self-guided tours, giveaways, games for children and information booths.

The old terminal will be demolished in March; the space will eventually be used to extend aircraft parking outside the new terminal, so four passenger jets can pull up at a time, instead of one.
