Gov. Mark Dayton is up north today and will attend the retirement roast for state Rep. Tom Rukavina, who didn't seek re-election after 26 years in the Legislature.
The roast-and-Polish-sausage dinner is Monday night at the Mountain Iron Community Center.
Rukavina surprised folks by announcing his retirement after the session, rather than joining the other retirees who gave speeches on the floor on the last day.
He had sought the DFL nomination for governor in 2010.
The Star Tribune called him a "pint-sized powerhouse around the Capitol."
On this trip, Dayton also will meet with business leaders in Nashwauk and tour the Essar Steel construction site.
