Twelve candidates for a temporary city council position will be interviewed today by the St. Paul City Council.
They've each applied to fill the Ward 1 seat being vacated by Council Member Melvin Carter III, who will resign July 5 to take a job with the Minnesota Department of Education.
The candidate chosen by the council will hold the seat until voters choose a new council member in a special election in November.
The council is expected to select a temporary council member who promises not to run in the special election.
Today's schedule for interviews, which will be held in Room 330 at City Hall:

- 4:45 p.m. Timothy Doherty
- 5 p.m. Warsan Farah
- 5:30 p.m. Marvin Roger Anderson
- 6 p.m. Nathaniel Kahliq
- 6:30 p.m. Patty Lammers
Candidate Lori Stee is out of town today but has been told she may submit written materials to back up her application.
The interviews will be held around the council's regularly-scheduled meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the council chambers.
