Twelve candidates for a temporary city council position will be interviewed today by the St. Paul City Council.

They've each applied to fill the Ward 1 seat being vacated by Council Member Melvin Carter III, who will resign July 5 to take a job with the Minnesota Department of Education.

The candidate chosen by the council will hold the seat until voters choose a new council member in a special election in November.

The council is expected to select a temporary council member who promises not to run in the special election.

Today's schedule for interviews, which will be held in Room 330 at City Hall:

  • 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Darryl Spence
  • 12:45 p.m. Jacqui Shoholm
  • 1 p.m. Robin Hickman
  • 1:15 p.m. John Loban
  • 1:30 p.m. Matthew Brenegen
  • 1:45 p.m. Devin Miller
  • 4:30 p.m. Renee Tyler
