The St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department ran an online #CleanupStPaul contest after the city's annual park cleanup event was canceled twice because of April snow.
Volunteers were asked to post a picture on Twitter or the Parks Facebook page to be eligible for a prize.
And the winner is: state Sen. Foung Hawj's Volunteer Team, which cleaned up around Lake Phalen on April 27 and uploaded photos to Facebook of themselves with trash bags full of the debris they collected.
Each cleanup team member will receive single-day pool admission.
Fawj, a first-term state senator, represents District 67 on St. Paul's East Side.
One of the volunteers on his team, Lissee Thao, told city officials:
"It was a really good feeling, knowing you’re doing good and making the parks clean and beautiful. I encourage everyone to go out and help because it doesn’t take much of your time and really does make a difference."
