A high-level contingent from Sweden is visiting Minnesota and the Midwest this week, on a quest to "follow the trek of their immigrants."
The group includes three northern Swedish provincial governors, two university presidents, and cultural leaders. On their tour:
- The American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis
- "Mobergland" around Taylors Falls and Chisago Lake
- Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter,
The also have stops in Stratford (Swede Bend) Iowa, a symposium on Regional Sustainable Development at Augustana College; the Jenny Lind Chapel at Andover, and the Swedish American Museum in Chicago.
The delegation includes:
- Gov. Barbro Holmberg of Gävleborgs län (Sweden´s former Minister of Migration)
- Gov. Britt Bohlin of Jämtlands län (recognized national defense expert)
- Gov. Bo Källstrand of Västernorrlands län, (former head of Swedish Energy)
- Dr. Maj-Britt Johansson, President of Gävle University College
- Dr. Anders Söderholm, President of Mid-University
- Mr. Görgen Antonsson, national folkfiddler
- Mr. Örjan Hans-Ers, national folkfidder and manager of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra
- Ms. Katarina Ceder Bång of Hälsingland, tourism director
- Mr. Mats Forslund of Jämtland, tourism director
- Mr. Olle Lundgren, Jämtland provincial planner and tour organizer
Gov. Mark Dayton will lead a trade mission to Europe in June, which will include a stop in Sweden, as well as Germany and Norway.
