There'll be another constitutional amendment on the ballot — this time in 2016: Minnesota voters will be asked whether to set an independent commission to set pay for legislators.
There had been a push earlier in the session for legislators to raise their own pay, but with the approval of a $2 billion tax increase, that was ultimately deemed unwise.
So the House and Senate have both approved the proposed amendment. The Senate vote came in the early morning hours on Monday. It does not need approval from Gov. Mark Dayton.
Last November, state voters failed to approve two state constitutional amendments on the ballot: a proposed ban on gay marriage (which then rebounded into approval of gay marriage this session) and a voting amendment.
