Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, a Republican who's long been considered a likely candidate for governor in 2014, has scheduled a "special announcement" in Hamel on Sunday.
The Sunday event is at 1 p.m. at the Hamel Community Center.
On a Facebook page, comes the message:
"Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson welcomes neighbors, family and friends of all political persuasions to this special event."
Johnson is a Republican National Committee member and former state House member.
Last week, Republican businessman Scott Honour announced that he will run in the governor's race.
Other Republicans are also expected to join the race soon, while there's still plenty of time to raise money.
DFL Gov. Mark Dayton has said he plans to run for a second term.
