St. Paul Schools Superintendent Valeria Silva has been elected to head a national council of large-city school systems.
She's the new chair of the Council of Great City Schools'Board of Directors.
She'll start July 1 and serve a one-year term.
The council is made up of 67 large urban school districts and works to improve education for inner-city students. The Minneapolis school district also belongs to the council.
Each of the 67 school districts has two seats on the board, one for its superintendent and one for a school board member.
