St. Paul Republicans who attended Tuesday night's caucus didn't get much clarity on which party members, if any, might run for mayor or school board this year.
Greg Copeland, chair of the St. Paul Republican Party Committee, said Tim Holden, who is running for mayor as an independent, passed out flyers for his campaign and talked with caucus attendees.
"Holden told Republicans he came to meet them on a one-to-one to basis and listen to them," Copeland said.
So far, Holden is the only challenger to Mayor Chris Coleman, who is seeking a third term and has strong DFL support in the nonpartisan race.
Copeland also said that three candidates who have run for school board seats in the past attended the caucus but didn't indicate whether they'll run again this year.
Actual endorsements won't be discussed until a city convention, yet to be scheduled.
Also addressing the caucus Tuesday night were newly elected state GOP Chair Keith Downey and state Senate Minority Leader David Hann. Both offered support and encouragement to St. Paul Republicans, who have had little success over the years in city elections.
According to Copeland, Hann told the group:
"If St. Paul residents are unhappy with how the City is operating, or dissatisfied with St. Paul schools; they are ready to vote for a change. We are the change."
