Threats to free speech, on college campuses and in other arenas is the topic of a noon talk Thursday at the University of Minnesota's Coffman Memorial Union.

And it's a free speech on free speech.

Eric Daniels, research assistant professor at Clemson University’s Institute for the Study of Capitalism, will talk about the threats he sees to free speech in the country, from campus speech codes to anti-discrimination and harassment law, from campaign finance to commercial speech.

Promotion for the event by the Ayn Rand Institute notes that "colleges and universities have become a hotbed of censorship, producing generations of Americans who have accepted suppression of speech as the norm."

Daniels' says that understanding the proper basis of rights is the best way to secure freedom of speech.
