Minnesotans need to waste 94,444,444 hours playing e-pulltabs to provide Vikings Stadium #wilfare
from The Deets by Ed Kohler
The state’s share, as we know all too well, is supposed to be funded by exploiting gamblers with e-pulltabs devices. Let’s suspend reality for a second and assume that electronic e-pulltabs are as popular as the Harlem Shake was for around a week last month, and would be for the next few decades. If we do that, we can calculate how many gamblers would need to be exploited over thirty years to employ 725 full time equivalent construction workers for three years.
Rabbi Zimmerman on the graffiti at Temple Israel
from TC Jewfolk by Bradley Machov
Temple Israel was vandalized last week. On Friday afternoon I sat down with Rabbi Zimmerman of Temple Israel to get an update on how the investigation and the cleanup are going, and what this says about the state of the Jewish community in the Twin Cities.

There were final arguments at the Office of Administrative Hearings presented in Common Cause Minnesota v. Republican Party of Minnesota on Monday, April 1, 2013. Does Sona Mehring have the political acumen to defeat John Kline?
from mnpACT! Progressive Political Blog by Dave Mindeman
I guess that is my major concern (and maybe I am completely wrong) but I have watched candidates with good intentions get run over by John Kline. Coleen Rowley, whom I consider a tough as nails advocate, got caught in a Kline meatgrinder. Other candidates were unable to raise enough money to bring Kline out of his Congressional shell....he hasn't seriously debated his opponents for some time.
Gophers hire Pitino: Hard lessons and hope
from Mr. Dilettante's Neighborhood by Mark Heuring
The other thing that was likely painful for Gopher fans to learn is that the job isn't necessarily well regarded. While the Gophers are members in good standing of the Big Ten, they haven't been especially relevant in the conference for a very long time now.

from MN70s by Dave Kenney
Hundreds of cranky Minnesotans from around the state gathered in St. Paul to protest high property taxes on April 1, 1971.
Farmers markets without fear: Reviewing Beth Dooley’s 'Minnesota’s Bounty: The Farmers Market Cookbook'
from Borealis by Jennifer Thorson
Last summer I found my farmers market home (Golden Valley’s Market in the Valley), and now, armed with Beth’s book, I have the confidence not to worry about whether I’m buying the right thing or fear that my enthusiasm will turn into a chore I don’t have time for.
Bly and Tranströmer: Letters
from Macaroni by John Toren
I stopped down at the American Swedish Institute on Tuesday night to attend a book release party for Airmail: The Correspondence of Robert Bly and Tomas Tranströmer. The real parties were going on elsewhere, of course, before and after the reading, but the public had been invited to listen in as Bly read a few letters on stage.
