Beth Hawkins' EDTalk: A Reporter's Take on Education

EDTalksEDTalks is a lively new series that engages young professionals on public education issues in Minneapolis. Each program features two compelling 20-minute presentations followed by conversation and networking.

This EDTalks features these great presenters:

Oscar Reed: Restorative Justice
Oscar Reed is a former Minnesota Vikings player and businessman who has dedicated the past 35 years of his life to young people. Born to sharecropper parents on a Mississippi plantation, Oscar studied at Colorado State University and went on to become a businessman and youth advocate after his football career. He was appointed by the city of Minneapolis to the position of Youth Programs Director for 15 years, and also co-founded The Link, Inc. Oscar has directed several youth development and employment programs and also brings an extensive background in restorative justice practices.

Beth Hawkins: A Reporter's Take on Education
MinnPost reporter Beth Hawkins writes Learning Curve, a blog about education, and also covers a variety of other public policy topics. She loves writing for an audience that’s hungry for context and analysis and willing to indulge her many curiosities. Beth is the recipient of numerous national and regional awards, including several first-place Society of Professional Journalists Page One awards for investigative reporting and feature writing. Her work has appeared in Minnesota Monthly, Mother Jones, More and many other publications.
