African-American religious leaders will hold a faith rally Thursday at the Minnesota State Capitol to call for lawmakers to eliminate inequities.
The 10 a.m. rally comes on the anniversary of Marin Luther King Jr.'s assassination; he was killed in Memphis on April 4, 1968.
The group says it will "share stories and challenge public leaders to work together through bold leadership and courageous action to eliminate inequities, create new opportunities and repair the harm that has been done in the past."
The Rev. Paul Slack, pastor at New Creation Church in Minneapolis, said:
"Our elected leaders have a tremendous responsibility and opportunity to work towards building a state that honors the sacredness and affirms the dignity of every Minnesotan. As African American people of faith, we will uphold our proud historic and prophetic tradition of answering the call to right injustice."
Slack is president of ISAIAH , a nonprofit coalition of more than 100 congregations from various faiths in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and greater Minnesota, working for racial and economic justice.
