Many St. Paul buildings will turn off their lights for an hour Saturday night as the city participates in the international Earth Hour.
The lights will go out from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. to promote energy conservation.
Buildings scheduled to observe the Hour of Darkness:
- State Capitol
- St. Paul City Hall and Ramsey County Court House
- Landmark Center
- St. Paul Central Library
- James J. Hill Reference Library
- Wells Fargo Place
- First National Bank Building
- District Energy
- Rice Park
City officials are also urging residents, businesses and others to join the effort by turning off non-essential lights during thet hour.
Mayor Chris Coleman says this is just one way the city is promoting energy conservation and efficiency, noting the city is promoting electric-car sharing programs, solar-powered charging stations and solar panels.
