Gov. Mark Dayton is hosting a breakfast buffet this morning for the Concordia College (St. Paul) volleyball team, which made history in December by winning their sixth straight Division II championship.
The team has been on an amazing run, winning 36 straight NCAA tournament matches. In the December finals, they lost the first two sets to Tampa, then came back to win three straight and take the title.
The team has four All-American players: Ellie Duffy, Cassie Haag, Kayla Koenecke and Amanda Konetchy. Since starting at Concordia in 2003, Coach Brady Starkey has an overall record of 339-30.
After breakfast, the governor is speaking in the Capitol Rotunda at 10 a.m. to a group rallying for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Day. The rally organizers hope to support families with the disorder and spread the news about the dangers of prenatal drinking.
