Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak has some lines in a public service ad prepared by mayors from around the country. The ad asks people to demand action from Congress on passing new laws to limit gun violence.

While 30 mayors are featured in the ad, the bipartisan Mayors Against Illegal Guns group claims to have support from more than 900 mayors from 45 states and more than 1.4 million grassroots supporters.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman is part of the group, too, but didn't get a role in the ad.

Besides Rybak and Coleman, Minnesota Mayors Don Ness of Duluth and Peter Lindstrom of Falcon Heights are listed on the group's website.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the group's co-chair, said:

Americans overwhelmingly support background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals,. Now it’s time for Congress to stand with their constituents to pass a law requiring background checks for all gun sales – and to take other common sense steps that will save lives.
