An open house will be held tonight, March 5, to explain major construction plans for Hwy. 36 in Maplewood.
A renovation of the highway east of Hwy. 61 will eliminate the stop lights at English Street, in another step in turning Hwy. 36 into a freeway.
Minnesota Department of Transportation officials will hold the open house at the Maplewood Community Center from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The $17.3 million project will:
- Replace the Hwy. 36/English Street signalized intersection with a diamond interchange.
- Improve CR B/Hwy 61 intersection.
- Remove existing access to Hwy 36 at Hazelwood and Atlantic streets.
- Replace Vento Trail pedestrian and bicycle bridge.
Also this year, MnDOT will replace the stop lights on Hwy. 36 at Hilton Trail with a diamond exchange.
The new St. Croix River Bridge, being built to replace the Stillwater Lift Bridge, will hook up with Hwy. 36 just south of Stillwater.
