Midwinter diversion: St. Paul gives awards for city's best gardens

St. Paul's annual Blooming St. Paul Awards were recently announced at an event emceed by city Parks Director Mike Hahm and Arts and Gardens Coordinator Mark Granlund. 

And the top residential garden went to: Lora Bloom.

A midwinter announcement of awards for St. Paul's best gardens seems like very fine timing indeed: Snow on the ground makes it  the time to dream and plan.

The awards went to:

Residential:

  • Gold: Lora Bloom, 856 Jenks Ave.
  • Silver: Susan Warde, 1383 Grantham
  • Bronze: Greg Trentman/Rachel Goligoski, 1317 Selby Ave.

Business/Institution:

  • Gold: Church of the Assumption, 51 W.  Seventh St.
  • Silver: Summit Brewery, 910 Montreal Circle
  • Bronze: Carter's BP Gas, 623 Como Ave.

Environmental

  • Gold: Temple of Aaron Garden Club, 616 S. Mississippi River Blvd.
  • Silver: Debby Smith, 1601 Alameda St.
  • Bronze: Mississippi Market, 622 Selby Ave.

Art in the Garden

  • Gold: Lisa & Lynn Barrett, 1344 Hewitt Ave.
  • Silver: Dennis R. Breining, 710 Dayton Ave.

City Property/Volunteer

  • Gold: Lisa Hage, St. Clair Community Center, 265 Oneida St.

Vegetable Garden

  • Gold: Minnesota Community Design Center, 731 E. Seventh St.
  • Silver: Krishna and Amanda Wilson, 922 Linwood Ave.
  • Bronze: Ashela Richards and other UST students, 2287 Goodrich Ave.
