The Greyhound bus company is giving up on St. Paul.
Starting May 6, it's only Twin Cities station will be in downtown Minneapolis, near Target Center. And that means it won't be part of the Union Depot, St. Paul's once and future downtown transportation hub.
The bus line had been operating a station on St. Paul's University Avenue, not far from the Capitol, and had been expected to move to downtown's Union Depot.
A Greyhound spokesman told the Pioneer Press:
"It's really due to the expansion of our new luxury service, Greyhound Express, which is a more direct service with fewer stops. It's either nonstop or one stop. We have no plans to operate out of St. Paul after May 6."
When the renovated Union Depot is completed at the end of the year, it will host Amtrak, Metro Transit buses, Jefferson Lines buses, and eventually, the Central Corridor light rail line.
But no Greyhound.
