On Friday, Apr. 6, the Minnesota Orchestra will present "A Love Letter to New Orleans," featuring trumpeter Irvin Mayfield and his Quintet with special guests Aaron Neville, Bill Summers and Jason Marsalis.
"A Love Letter to New Orleans," Irvin Mayfield’s book and CD of the same name, is an intimate reflection on the many influences that led the talented young kid from New Orleans to become one of his generation’s greatest jazz trumpeters.
Hosted by journalist Soledad O’Brien, Mayfield’s friend and contributor of the book’s foreword, this magical evening will showcase a cast of guest musicians — true New Orleans royalty — performing music from the CD, an inspired revelation of Mayfield's journey as an artist.
The concert is open to members and nonmembers alike. Buy concert tickets here.
A pre-concert happy hour and and post-concert celebration will be hosted by Crescendo Project — the young patrons group of the Minnesota Orchestra — at the Dakota Jazz Club.
As a special bonus, attendees will have the opportunity to talk to star trumpeter (and the Minnesota Orchestra’s first artistic director of jazz) Irving Mayfield after the concert!
Cocktail attire admired but not required.
Place (concert): Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Ave., Mpls., MN 55403
