Gov. Mark Dayton's office announced a last-minute cancellation of Tuesday's planned trip to Washington D.C., where he and state Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson were going to ask federal officials for permission to use health care money for MinnesotaCare.

The governor planned to ask HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to let Minnesota use federal Basic Health Plan money to help pay for MinnesotaCare, the state-subsidized health plan for about 130,000 state residents.

Folks on that state plan earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but can't afford private health insurance.

The governor's office now says: "Travel did not work with the governor’s schedule today — we are working to either schedule a conference call or another meeting as soon as possible."
