Michael Brodkorb's condition has reportedly improved after a serious car crash Wednesday night, according to a statement from his wife, Sarah.
Initial reports said Brodkorb was in critical condition after his car hit a wall on I-35E and careened across three lanes. Later, hospital officials said the family requested that no further updates be issued.
The statement, today, a media advisory from Regions Hospital, says:
Sarah Brodkorb, wife of Michael Brodkorb, issued the following statement on behalf of their family:
"Michael's condition has improved. We thank everyone for their concern, warm thoughts and prayers. As we focus on Michael's health, we ask that the media and the public continue to respect our wishes for privacy."
Brodkorb was not wearing a seat belt and there was evidence of alcohol use at the crash site, the State Patrol said.
Brodkorb is involved in a legal dispute with the state Senate after he was fired when it became widely known he was having an affair with then-Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. Both were married at the time.
In an interview with Channel 9 last fall, Brodkorb declined to say if the affair was continuing or if he was facing divorce from his wife.
Sarah Brodkorb was in the news in 2011, when she called Eagan police about her husband, during an apparent domestic dispute.
