Gary DeCramer, a senior lecturer and director of the mid-career Master of Public Affairs program at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, died unexpectedly today. He was 68.
In the 1980s, DeCramer had been a state senator representing Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock counties.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Humphrey School Dean Eric Schwartz said today in a note to the University community:
"Gary has been an integral part of the Humphrey School, with an infectious enthusiasm for the School and its mission. I ask you to join me in supporting Gary’s wife Estelle Brouwer and daughters at this time of great loss and that you join in in honoring the memory and legacy of a man that has meant so much to so many."
DeCramer had been at the Humphrey School since 1992. He'd formerly been a board member for Project Harvest Hope, which helps villages of the Transylvanian region of Romania. DeCramer also was the former chair of the board of directors of DARTS, a nonprofit organization that provides transportation, care giver, and other services throughout Dakota County.
