State Capitol parking goes high tech with pay stations

State Capitol parking has gone high tech, with the elimination of parking meters in favor of parking stations like the ones in downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The stations handle parking payments in many state-owned lots near the Capitol in St. Paul, as well as parking on Aurora Street in front of the main Capitol entrance. (Those street spots, though, are reserved during legislative sessions.)

The stations will take $1 and $5 bills, coins, MasterCard and Visa. Cost is $1.50 an hour, or $6 a day.

Customers can add additional time to their stall from any e-Park pay station on the Capitol Complex.

Officials say the e-Park pay stations are now available in nine public parking locations, including the lot on Cedar Street and Sherburne Avenue just northeast of the Capitol, the lot on North Robert Street and 14th Street adjacent to the Department of Revenue building, and the ramp on Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cedar Street.
