Thursday is the fourth annual"Give to the Max Day," a 24-hour effort to raise money for nonprofit organizations.

Many organizations are holding special events to attract attention to their cause and encourage donations. Some of those are:

  • School principals from around the state will ride the roller coaster at the Mall of America in two-hour shifts.
  • Helping Paws, which provides service animals to those with disabilities, holds an open house with some of its dogs-in-training.
  • HUGE Improv Theater in Minneapolis has a 28-hour improv marathon.
  • Circus Juventas, the youth circus organization in St. Paul, has afternoon performances and demonstrations.
  • Spare Key, which offers one-time mortgage payment help for families with seriously ill or critically injured children, plans a 24-hour non-stop PedalPub pedaling marathon.

MinnPost is one of the organizations seeking donations.

The giving blitz is sponsored by  GiveMN, a nonprofit that is a support organization of the Minnesota Community Foundation.

Last year, the effort raised $13.4 million for nearly 4,000 Minnesota nonprofits, with 47,534 donors contributing online.
