For the second time this cycle, a TV station has pulled an anti-Chip Cravaack ad because of false content.
WDIO in Duluth dropped an ad from the DFL Party on Tuesday because it incorrectly claimed Cravaack “doesn’t even live in Minnesota anymore.”
Cravaack, a first-term Republican congressman, lives in North Branch. Last summer, his wife and children moved to New Hampshire to be closer to her job in Boston.
The Cravaack campaign objected to the ad, saying it "makes false statements intending to deliberately deceive Minnesota voters and defame Congressman Cravaack's reputation." The station announced it would replace it with a different DFL spot instead, and a party spokeswoman said the DFL will tweak the ad and resubmit it.
An ad out this week from DFL candidate Rick Nolan contains a similar charge. The Cravaack campaign said it's considering whether to contest that spot as well.
Last month, WCCO pulled a House Majority PAC ad that claimed constituents had to pay to see Cravaack in person. The line was based on a single event from last summer, and the Cravaack campaign said the 17 town halls he held throughout the district proved the attack false.
