Former Minnesota Secretary of State Joan Growe is featured in the first television commercial being aired by opponents of the proposed Voting Amendment that will be on the statewide ballot Nov. 6.

The ad — paid for by the Our Vote Our Future group, which urges a no vote on the amendment — began running today on broadcast stations in the Twin Cities.

Growe, who oversaw Minnesota elections as secretary of state from 1975 to 1999, says in the ad:

“Minnesota has one of the nation’s fairest election systems, where every vote is counted and every citizen can participate.

"And that’s one more reason to oppose this voter restriction amendment.

"When the Legislature put it on the ballot, they didn’t think it through.

"It would keep thousands of Minnesota citizens from voting.

"And it would require new regulations that would cost local communities millions.

"It’s too costly, and too complicated.  Please vote no."
