When pheasant season opens Saturday in Minnesota, Gov. Mark Dayton will be hunting in the fields near Marshall.
It's the Second Annual Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener, created by Dayton last year to fulfill a campaign promise. The idea is to add some gubernatorial clout to the event, much like the official fishing and deer hunting openers.
The governor is in Marshall today, helping dedicate the Clifton-Rolling Hills Wildlife Management Area, east of the southwest Minnesota city.
He'll hunt at 9 a.m. Saturday in that wildlife area with guide Nick Simonson, president of Lyon County Pheasants Forever.
There will be a full report on their success during a noon press conference at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
