Two Republican candidates hoping to challenge U.S. Rep. Tim Walz in the 1st District Congressional race made their pitch to Tea Party voters in Rochester Thursday.
Allen Quist and Mike Parry both made it clear they're against the federal health care law and vowed to cut government spending, says the Rochester Post-Bulletin.
Quist, a former state senator who once ran for governor and is now a farmer, told the gathering of 80 at a pizza parlor that he'd work to cap federal spending and try to balance the budget within six years.
Parry is a state senator from Waseca. He criticized Walz for failing to support a proposed constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget. He also opposes the constant raising of the debt ceiling.
