Obama surrogates in Minnesota have been crossing the state this week as part of a bus tour for the president while he campaigned in Iowa and Vice President Joe Biden rallied supporters on the East Coast.

By the time it’s completed on Friday, the “Heartland Tour 2012: Moving the Middle Class Forward” bus tour will have made more than 21 stops throughout the state. It comes in the wake of Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s announcement on Saturday that Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan will be his running mate.

The Midwest tour also serves to roll the president’s election campaign  message through the heart of Ryan’s home territory.

Local and statewide elected officials, including Congresswoman Betty McCollum, state Reps. Al Juhnke, Terry Morrow, Erin Murphy and Rick Hansen, and state Sens. Roger Reinert and Keith Langseth are taking part.

Other stops on the campaign leg include Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Albert Lea, Mankato, Willmar, Morris, Alexandria, Moorhead, Bemidji, Grand Rapids and Virginia.
