Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who represents Sartell in central Minnesota, said she understands the decision to close the 105-year-old paper plant there after an explosion on Memorial Day killed one and caused major damage.

She said she'll work to bring jobs back to the city.

Gov. Mark Dayton plans to  meet with a task force that is working to find other uses for the plant, which had been the city's No. 1 property tax payer.

Bachmann's statement:

"In this fragile economy, I understand Verso’s decision to close their plant in Sartell in order to preserve their assets. Decisions like this are never easy, and I know Verso’s leadership worked hard to make the best decision possible.

"Anytime hardworking Minnesotans lose their job it is a heartbreaking day.  The more than 400 employees who worked at the Verso Paper Mill in Sartell are one of the finest workforces in America, and I will continue to work tirelessly to bring jobs back to the community.

"I will also continue to work with Governor Dayton, Sartell Mayor Perske, and other local elected officials to make sure government is a help and not a hindrance to making sure new businesses start and thrive in Sartell.

"This is one of the finest workforces and best communities in Minnesota, and I’m confident that with the right positive, pro-growth policies Sartell will continue to be a great place to do business."
